Technical Director/Projectionist

The Technical Director of the Sag Harbor Cinema (SHC), A 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, is an essential role within our small, familial staff, and will oversee all technical aspects of the three (3) state-of-the-art SHC theaters and the projection booth.


The Technical Director implements and coordinates all technical aspects of the Sag Harbor Cinema program and cinema, collaborating with the Artistic Director, Cinema Manager(s), Communications Manager, and other staff members as they interface with the physical plant of the building.

 

● Overseeing projection systems

○ Tracking print intake/outflow

○ Ingesting media

○ Building playlists on CineLister/Dolby TMS

○ Organizing non-feature assets for film screenings

○ Projecting digital and analog films

○ Tracking and caring for 35mm film prints

○ Total maintenance of the projection booth

 

● Producing and managing in theater events for the Artistic Director

○ including Q&As, both live in-person presentations and Zoom discussions

 

● Overseeing rental integrations

○ Working with outside groups to set expectations on rental screenings

○ Coordinating presentations with outside groups

 

● Ordering & Inventory

○ Responsible for booth upkeeping and inventory (tape, pens, gloves, bulbs)

○ Liaise with booth tech consultants DMS

 

The Technical Director/Projectionist reports to the Artistic Director and the Operations Director. 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

● Broad and deep familiarity with film projection systems, both Digital and 35mm. 16mm is a plus, but training will be mandatory and provided by outside Certified Professionals.

● Familiarity with Dolby TMS content management systems

● Strong communication skills

● Technical generalist skill

● Event management skills

This is a FULL-TIME position. Salary is in the $55,000 range and is negotiable. Salary will be commensurate with industry standards and experience. Health insurance is offered. For immediate start date. 

Cafe & Concessions Attendant

As the first point of contact for patrons of the cinema, the Cafe & Concessions Attendant is a vital part-to-full time position, embodying the mission and values of the organization. The position is responsible for day-to-day operations of the Cafe and/or Concessions stand. Ideal candidates will bring a passion for film, community, and exemplary service to the role. The Cafe and Concessions Attendant reports to the Cinema Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing exceptional and knowledgeable customer service
  • Process all transactions in accordance with established procedures, including but not limited to handling all POS charges, completing cashier and other reports, preparing deposits, and redeeming gift vouchers
  • Operating and maintaining all cafe equipment
  • Operating and maintaining concessions equipment
  • Stocking items such as food, drink, SWAG items, Gift cards, and more
  • Maintaining public spaces in a clean and inviting manner
  • Other duties as requested by management

Job Requirements/Skills:

  • Broad and deep knowledge of computer-based POS systems
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and focus
  • Compassion, sensitivity and poise
  • Effective organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • A presentable physical appearance
  • The ability to stand for long periods of time, lift 50lbs, and work days, nights, and weekends as needed
  • Knowledge of and passion for world contemporary and historic cinema a big plus!

Education/Experience:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent. Current HS students also encouraged to apply.
  • Customer service: 1 year (required)
  • Sales: 1 year (required)
  • Hospitality: 1 year (preferred)
  • Cinema: 1 year (preferred)

 

This is a non-exempt position.

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Hours: Full Time and Flexible shifts.

Custodian

The Cinema’s custodian will be responsible for keeping the cinema in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing trash. Duties may include cleaning theaters between screenings, performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Candidates may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. Age 18 or older.

  • Cleaning, mopping and vacuuming all areas of the Cinema, including but not limited to the main lobby (Café), concession area, theaters, and hallways.
  • Use blower or vacuum to effectively clean between and under theatre seats between screenings.
  • Clean and sanitize each theater between screening.
  • Clean and sanitize restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets; wash windows and mirrors; replenish supplies in the restrooms.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Pressure wash, clean, and maintain entrance/exit areas and garbage area
  • Empty, clean and sanitize waste receptacles.
  • Identify and report building maintenance needs
  • Assist in setting up building for business
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements to be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Standing, walking, lifting, twisting, and bending on a frequent basis – including up and down stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry it up to 90 feet (or deposit into dumpster or trash compactor).
  • Ability to work safely with a variety of cleaning supplies.
  • Ability to safely use basic cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work late at night, as necessary.
  • Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.
  • Learn to use a variety of custodial equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

This is a non-exempt position.

Salary: $15.00 per hour
