Sag Harbor Cinema’s

LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT

Screening: Eighth Grade (2018, Bo Burnham)

Sunday, November 16

View the Discussion

Sag Harbor Cinema is proud to continue its Lighthouse Project, a year-round film and discussion series that illuminates mental health awareness, advocacy and action. Sag Harbor Cinema’s Lighthouse Project is free and open to the public and offers equitable access to mental health information with expert-led panel discussions. Its goal is to demystify, to destigmatize, and to promote knowledge about mental disorders, and to disseminate information about their treatment using film as an entry point for discussion.

This Lighthouse series event took place on Sunday, November 16th at Sag Harbor Cinema, and focused on adolescent anxiety and social media.

Sag Harbor Cinema screened Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade (2018) and Jack Kendrick’s short film Honey Bee (2017). After the film, there was a panel discussion—moderated by Dr. Diana Diamond, Ph.D. (Clinical Psychology, CUNY/Weill Cornell)—about the nature and manifestations of adolescent anxiety and its intersection with social media usage.

Featured panelists included: Laura Braider, Ph.D. (Behavioral Health College Partnership, Northwell Health); Nicholas Kardaras, Ph.D. (Clinical Professor, Stony Brook); Wendy Cleary, LCSW (Board Member, Generation S.O.S.); and Jack Kendrick (filmmaker).

This edition of the Lighthouse Project was kindly sponsored by Northwell Behavioral Health.
