THE ABSENT-MINDED PROFESSOR
Directed by Robert Stevenson
USA, 1961; 92 mins, in English

Fred MacMurray is Ned Brainard, the brilliant chemistry professor of Medfield College whose amazing discovery of “flubber” forever changes the way college basketball is played in this comedy classic that began The Walt Disney Company’s run of science-themed comedies. Nominated for its special effects, black-and-white art direction, and black-and-white cinematography, The Absent-Minded Professor was the first Disney film to inspire a sequel—1963’s Son of Flubber—and was remade in 1997 with Robin Williams, titled simply Flubber.
