CORPSE BRIDE
Directed by Tim Burton, Mike Johnson
USA/UK, 2005; 77 mins, in English. Rated PG

Returning to the painstaking stop-motion animation he employed with amazing success in The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton presents a hair-raising legend based on a 19th-century Russian folktale, in which a young man mistakenly weds a corpse. Burton’s Corpse Bride, who was wronged by her previously betrothed, delights over Victor’s sudden appearance, but Victor was only practicing his vows for his own flesh-and-blood fiancée. On top of everything, the two face a slight dilemma of belonging to two completely different worlds: the land of the living and that of the dead.
